Southeast Asian Games champion Sakura Alforte banners the Philippine team that would see action in the 21st AKF Asian Senior Karate Championships slated on May 23 to 25 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Alforte, who won the gold medal in the 2023 SEAG edition held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, is scheduled to compete in the women’s individual kata, while also joining forces with Allison Quiroga, Ricca Torres and Veguillas in the team event.
Laurence Nopre, meanwhile, will compete in the men’s kata, where he will also conspire with
Giovanni Apuya, Felix Calipusan and Jodan Macalipay in the team event.
Battling in the men’s kumite are Kirk Zamayla (-55kg), Christian Lachica (-60kg), Alwyn Batican (-75kg), Ray Carlo Silva (-84kg), and Sharief Afif (+84kg), while the women’s side will have Marie June Adriano (-50kg) and MJ Montalvo (-55kg).
The PH team hopes to eclipse its previous performance in last year’s edition held in Hangzhou, China where Alforte and Jeremy Nopre each bagged a bronze in the individual kata event.
As of press time, there are a total of 325 entries from 23 countries participating in the three-day affair that will have five female kumite events, six male kumite, female and male individual kata, and female and male team kata.
