Puwersa ng Bayaning Atleta (PBA) Party-list Rep. Migs Nograles lost to Davao City 1st district Rep. Paolo Duterte in the race for the latter's district, but she knows it's not the end of the world.
Nograles, a deputy majority leader, took solace in the fact that her solon-husband, Davao Oriental 2nd district Rep. Cheeno Almario, was successful in his reelection bid during the May 12 mid-term polls.
"To my other half, Cheeno, I am so proud of you and I am very happy that you made it. I will always be your no. 1 supporter," Nograles wrote in a Facebook post last Saturday night, May 17.
"Congratulations to the winning candidates. May your term be marked by unity and progress for all Dabawenyos. Trust that I will remain ever an ally for real and meaningful change for our people," she said.
Nograles and Almario--both members of the House "Young Guns" bloc--tied the knot in November 2024. They become a couple as colleges in the 19th Congress.
In the same post, Nograles acknowledged her defeat in the recent polls. "Last election, our kababayan have spoken, and we accept and respect the decision of the Dabawenyos."
The lady solon--daughter of the late House Speaker Prospero Nograles--said she sought the district representation "out of a desire to contribute to the further transformation of the city"
. "I believe that our beloved city has much potential, that it can be unlocked by installing the right people to help usher progress that benefits all. That belief remains undiminished even after this exercise," she said, before thanking friends and family for supporting her in the elections.
Duterte--son of former president Rodrigo Duterte--has won his third and final term in the House of Representatives. The Dutertes and Nograles are long-time rivals in Davao politics.
