“It's because of the President. The people find him wanting of his promises, and the people expect more from the President, particularly with regard to his work for our country,” she told the media on Saturday, May 17.
“So, they should not blame anyone else, anything that has happened. It's just the President,” Duterte stressed.
Of the 12 senatorial bets of Alyansa, a coalition composed of five parties, only six entered the so-called Magic 12, with Las Pinas Rep. Camille Villar even seeking Duterte’s endorsement.
None of them, however, came from the President’s Partido Federal ng Pilipinas.
ACT-CIS Partylist Rep. Erwin Tulfo ran under coalition member Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats, former senators Tito Sotto and Lito Lapid were fielded by the Nationalist People’s Coalition, while reelectionist Senator Pia Cayetano and Villar came from the Nacionalista Party. Lacson ran as an independent candidate.
Presidential sister Imee Marcos, originally running under the Alyansa coalition, also sought the Vice President’s endorsement and was adopted by former president Rodrigo Duterte’s Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) a few days before Election Day.
Of the “DuterTen” candidates, however, three entered the winning circle—Senators Bong Go and Ronald Dela Rosa and Rep. Rodante Marcoleta.
Former senators Kiko Pangilinan and Bam Aquino, both of whom took a liberal but independent stance during the campaign, completed the Senate’s Top 12.
The Vice President said her father has already been updated regarding the results of the midterm elections. In the local scene, the Dutertes dominated their hometown of Davao City.
“When I updated him...for President Duterte, I didn't have any reaction with the national results. But on the local results, he said ‘tagam sila,’” she shared.
The Vice President and her brother, Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte, attended a thanksgiving mass at the Carmelite Church in Lanang, Davao City on Saturday.
Aside from Rep. Duterte’s win, the former president and incumbent Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte also won the mayoralty and vice mayoralty races, respectively.
Rep. Duterte’s son, Omar, also won as congressman in the midterm polls.
