Senator Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go, the topnotcher of the 2025 senatorial race, has promised the Filipino people that the legislative branch will pursue measures that will bring quality medical services, promote access to tertiary education, ensure food security, and bring back safety on the streets.
Topnotcher Bong Go dedicates win to Digong; vows quality medical services, food security, safer streets
Go, in his speech during his proclamation Saturday, May 17, dedicated his victory to former president Rodrigo Duterte, who he said had been his mentor. He said he advised him to prioritize the interest of the nation and of the people, instead of his own.
Set to serve another six-year term in the Senate, Go said he will continue pushing for pro-poor programs and laws that prioritize healthcare.
"Health is wealth. We must work together to bring quality medical services closer to our people, particularly the poor and indigent patients," he said.
With the youth having their "voices heard" in a big way during the May 12 elections, Go said he and his fellow senators will continue helping the future generations.
"[We] will hold the promise of a brighter future for our country. Hence, we need to invest more in education, like expanding further the law promoting the universal access to tertiary education, signed by former President Duterte, so that students will be able to choose more programs and avail of free education," he said.
"As an advocate of sports, we should also further advance course development in the country, especially in the grassroots, so that aspiring young athletes can be given the opportunity to improve their skills and hopefully, eventually, produce more Olympic medalists who will bring honor to our country," he added.
Go also vowed to push for legislation that will provide more opportunities in terms of job creation and livelihood support.
"Together, we must pursue and strengthen food security in order to ensure that there is food on the table of our people. Importante po sa akin ang laman ng tiyan ng mga kababayan natin, lalong lalo na po ang mahihirap (It's important for me that our fellow Filipinos, especially the poor, have full stomachs)," he said.
"We must continue our fight against criminality, illegal drugs and corruption for a more peaceful and orderly society. Mahahalaga pong nakakalad sa gabi ang ating mga kababayan na walang takot (It's important that people can walk at night on the streets without fear)," he added.
Go believes that the measure of a society's success "is the way it treats and takes care of its own people".
"As such, starting today, let us now buckle down to work," he said.
Go said he wanted to be remembered "not just as a senator, but as a public servant who puts first the welfare of our people at all times, particularly the poor and the less fortunate in life".
