According to the city’s Public Information Office (PIO), the beneficiaries included 5,172 senior high school and 11,447 elementary graduates, each student receiving P1,500.
The initiative was implemented under City Ordinance No. 551, Series of 2019, and City Ordinance No. 1110, Series of 2023, which aim to provide financial support to all graduating public school students in the city.
The ordinances also grant incentives to the top five honor students of each graduating batch. The top 1 student receives an additional P1,500; top 2 gets P1,000; while top 3, 4, and 5 each receive P500.
Valenzuela City Mayor Weslie “Wes” Gatchalian commended the students for their hard work and academic dedication.
“Huwag niyo po akong pasasalamatan dito sa binibigay nating financial assistance. Hindi ko po pera ito, pero po ng taumbayan ito—at pera po ng Lungsod ng Valenzuela. Ako po ay natutuwa [at] nagagalak sa achievement na nagawa ninyo dito sa Valenzuela National High School (ValNat) (I am not the one to thank for the financial assistance we are providing. This is not my money, but the people's money—and the resources of the City of Valenzuela. I am pleased and delighted with the achievement you have made here at Valenzuela National High School (ValNat)),” he said.
“I wish you all the best sa inyo pong pagpasok sa kolehiyo. Ano mang unibersidad ang inyong napili, tandaan niyo po, mga kasama, ang dugong Valenzuelano ay nasa loob niyo. Nasaan man kayo, taas-noo po ninyong dalhin at iwagayway ang bandera ng Valenzuela City (I wish you all the best as you enter college. Whatever university you choose, never forget that the core of being a Valenzuelano is within you. Wherever you are, hold your heads up high and take the pride of Valenzuela City with you),” Gatchalian added.
The city government said the distribution of the financial assistance to student beneficiaries will continue until May 24.
