- Senator-elect Kiko Pangilinan is dedicating his victory in the recent elections to the least prioritized sectors of the society.
Pangilinan, who was in the United States (US) for the graduation of his daughter Frankie, did not make it to his proclamation at the Manila Hotel on Saturday, May 17.
But in a message conveyed on his behalf, the returning senator said his victory was for all the farmers, workers, solo parents, and parents who have been trying hard to make ends meet and create a better future for their children.
“Laban natin ito (This is our fight),” Pangilinan said.
He also says it's "about time to recognize and support Mindanao not only as a food basket but also a key to address hunger and poverty".
Pangilinan said food must be affordable, people must have their dignity, and justice is for everybody.
"At ang tunay na pagkakaisa ay nagsisimula sa pakikinig (And real unity starts from listening),” he underscored.
“Walang kulay ang gutom. Walang kulay ang solusyon. Walang hinihintay ang awa (Hunger has no color. The solution has no color. Mercy waits for no man),” he added.
Pangilinan says he is accepting the people’s mandate for him to serve yet again as a senator with deep humility.
“Sa gitna ng patuloy na pagtaas ng presyo, malawakang gutom, at lalong lumalalim na pagkakawatak-watak, pinili ninyo ang landas ng malasakit, pagkakaisa, at konkretong pagkilos (Amid the increasing prices of oil, widespread hunger and division, you chose the path of empathy, unity, and concrete actions), he said.
“Walang puwersang pulitikal na hihigit pa sa taumbayan na tumataya, kumikilos, at naninindigan tungo sa isang layunin. At napatunayan natin muli ito sa ating tagumpay (No political force will ever surpass the people that takes risks, acts, and stands up for one purpose. We’ve proven this once more through our victory),” he added.
