BACOLOD CITY – Two neophyte mayors were elected in Negros Occidental on May 12 – Matthew Louis Malacon and Miguel Yulo of E.B. Magalona and Isabela municipalities, respectively.

Malacon, 23, is the son of Mayor Marvin who is now serving his third and final term. Miguel, also 23, is the son of reelected fifth district Rep. Emilio who is on his second term.
Matthew teamed up with his father as vice mayor. Matthew prevailed over Risa Barello while his father defeated Eddie Paez.
In a Facebook post, Matthew thanked the people who supported their victory and assured them that he will do his best for E.B. Magalona.
Matthew urged their opponents to unite and work together for the future of the municipality.
Elected municipal councilors were former Vice Mayor Eric Matulac, Gilda Parcon, Wyndel Depasucat, Edgardo Agravante Jr., Erwin Poniado, Ronel Mogul, Romulo Villanueva Jr., and Rosalita Arsenal.
All winning officials ran under Team Asenso Tumandok Padayon 2025.
Miguel and comebacking running mate Renato Malabor Jr. defeated the mother and son tandem of Vice Mayor Juan Miguel Montilla and Mayor Irene Montilla.
Miguel thanked the people for their victory.
“We hold more than just a piece of paper, we hold the trust, the hope, and the dreams of every Isabelaños who dared to believe in a better tomorrow,” he said.
“This was not just a win, it was a landslide victory. A clear and powerful message from the people, that unity, compassion, and genuine public service will always prevail,” he added.
