Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco has urged digital nomads and long-stay travelers to consider the Philippines as their next remote work destination, highlighting the country’s rich natural resources, cultural heritage, and government support for long-term stays.

At the recent SKIFT Asia Forum 2025 in Bangkok, Frasco said the Philippines is positioning itself as a top hub for remote workers through Executive Order No. 86, which formalized the Digital Nomad Visa (DNV) under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s administration.

“The value proposition that the country offers is not just a low-cost stay, but one that is of high value,” she said, noting that the DNV allows qualified foreigners to reside in the Philippines for up to one year while working remotely.

To strengthen this initiative, the DOT is collaborating with regional offices and local government units to ensure traveler safety, stable internet connectivity, and curated tourism circuits that encourage meaningful engagement with local communities.

Frasco also highlighted the Special Resident Retiree’s Visa (SRRV) from the Philippine Retirement Authority as an option for digital nomads seeking residency beyond the DNV’s one-year limit.

She added that, in partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), the DOT is accelerating efforts to boost internet access in more than 90 key tourist destinations nationwide.

Promoted remote work hotspots include Palawan, Boracay, and Siargao, with Palawan recently named the World’s Best Island — ideal for digital nomads balancing work and leisure.

Frasco presented the country’s digital nomad roadmap during a panel discussion with executives from Booking.com, Airbnb, AirAsia MOVE, Trip.com Group, and Thai Airways at the forum, as global travel leaders discussed innovations shaping the industry.
