The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Friday, May 16, hailed the election of one of its former agents Ronald “Jun” Poncio Aguto Jr. as governor of Batanes.
NBI Director Jaime B. Santiago congratulated Aguto, the bureau’s former chief of the Cybercrime Division (NBI-CCD).
“Your NBI family is proud of you for winning the gubernatorial race in Batanes,” said Santiago in a statement.
“Continue to emulate the core values of Nobility, Bravery, Integrity on your new journey as the father of the province,” Santiago urged Aguto.
Aguto, who ran under Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) party of President Marcos, beat fellow gubernatorial candidate Medardo Abad Jr. by 209 votes.
“Aguto is a committed and dedicated public servant and a recipient of many commendations when he was still an NBI agent,” Santiago said.
“He has established a strong reputation for integrity and ethical behavior including his full support to the NBI Gender and Development (GAD) programs when he was the Chief of the Budget Division,” it added.
Aguto, who belongs to Batch 36 of Class 1999 of the NBI Academy, attended many international trainings including the prestigious Royal Canadian Mounted Police Criminal Investigation Bureau; National Police Agency of Taiwan; International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) Roswell, New Mexico; Asia Pacific Law Enforcement Academy; Hongkong Police College; and FBI’s International Innocent Images Task Force in Calverton, Maryland, USA.
He also attended and is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy (FBI-NA).
