DSWD seeks applicants for 2025 Government Internship Program
Calling all college students interested in government work.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Friday, May 16 announced the opening of applications for the 2025 Government Internship Program (GIP), set to take place from May 19 to 21.
DSWD spokesperson Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao said the GIP is part of the “Kabataan 2000” initiative, a government program designed to provide young Filipinos with valuable work experience within various government agencies.
“This is an opportunity for college students to learn life skills in the workplace and at the same time earn money to defray their school expenses,” Dumlao said.
Each DSWD Field Office will have 75 available slots, while the DSWD Central Office in Quezon City will accommodate 35 interns.
The program is open to college students between the ages of 18 and 25, with preference given to those entering their 3rd or 4th year of studies for the upcoming school year.
To be eligible, applicants' family income must fall below the latest regional poverty threshold established by the Philippine Statistics Authority.
Interns selected for the program will receive a stipend of 75 percent of the regional minimum wage as of November 2022.
In exchange for the stipend, participants are required to complete 30 working days of service.
The internship is scheduled to coincide with the summer school break to allow students to maximize their free time productively and educationally.
“GIP participants assigned to the DSWD Central Office will engage in tasks such as administrative work, recording and tracking of incoming and outgoing documents, liaising with other bureaus or offices, photocopying of documents, and encoding of reports, among others,” Dumlao said.
Those stationed at Field Offices will assist in supporting the regional operations.
Since the program’s launch in 2017, nearly 8,000 college students have participated, which has given them firsthand experience in public service and deepened their understanding of government functions.
Students interested in applying for a position at the DSWD Central Office are encouraged to contact Verlan Rosales, the youth program focal person at the DSWD’s Protective Services Bureau, via email at [email protected].
Applicants from other regions may contact their respective DSWD Field Offices. A directory of contacts is available at dswd.gov.ph/dswd-field-office-2/.
