The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) is urging undocumented overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Saudi Arabia, particularly domestic workers tagged as “runaways” or “huroob,” to avail themselves of a six-month amnesty that allows them to legalize their status or return home without penalties.

DMW Undersecretary for Middle East and African Affairs Jainal Rasul Jr. said the correction period, which runs from May 11 to Nov. 10, was granted by the kingdom’s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (MHRSD).

“This is a crucial window for our undocumented OFWs to correct their legal status—either by securing a new employer to process their iqama or by arranging their repatriation,” Rasul said, referring to workers reported as absent without leave.

The amnesty is being implemented through Musaned, MHRSD’s official platform for domestic workers, which streamlines documentation and legal procedures.

The DMW reported that over 100 Filipino domestic workers in Riyadh and Jeddah and 54 in Al Khobar have already secured exit visas and are awaiting travel arrangements from their recruitment agencies or the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).

Rasul added that the DMW’s legal team in Saudi Arabia continues to assist detained workers in coordination with Saudi legal retainers.

The department assured that it is working closely with Saudi authorities to provide legal assistance, documentation, and reintegration support to affected OFWs throughout the amnesty period.
