Two policemen assigned at the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) woke up in a really bad hangover as they are now facing dismissal from the service for allegedly creating trouble inside a bar early Wednesday morning, May 14.
Police Maj. Gen. Anthony A. Aberin, director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), said he already ordered the preparation of criminal and administrative charges against the two erring cops.
“They are now under restrictive custody. They are facing criminal cases of alarms and scandals and malicious mischief,” said Aberin, adding that this is separate from the administrative charges with a maximum penalty of dismissal from the service.
Citing reports from the QCPD, the two policemen, assigned to the Warrant Section of Holy Spirit Police Station, went inside the bar located along Commonwealth Avenue at around 1 a.m.
The two cops, with a rank of Patrolman and Corporal, were already drunk then.
They ordered several bottles of beer and an hour later, they began throwing ice cubes at waiters and other customers.
“In the course of their unruly behavior, they damaged a glass painting frame and their actions caused alarm and panic that forced customers to vacate the premises,” the report read.
Aberin said the bar manager immediately contacted the nearest station for police assistance which resulted in the arrest of the two policemen.
Aberin explained that they have long banned policemen from entering bars, nightclubs, and similar public drinking establishments.
This includes nightclubs, beer gardens, karaoke bars, pubs, gambling dens, and other similar places of vice since such places are considered inappropriate for law enforcement officers, especially while in active service or uniform.
“NCRPO had long clearly emphasized its policy-there is no second chance for police officers who violate the law. As members of the PNP, we adhere to a higher standard of propriety and professionalism. NCRPO’s actions against police misconduct will always be swift, decisive and uncompromising,” said Aberin.
“The NCRPO continues to reiterate its commitment to instilling discipline within its ranks and reminds all personnel that acts unbecoming of a police officer will be met with swift and decisive action,” he added.
