NAUJAN, Oriental Mindoro – The Police Regional Office 4-B mourned the death of two police officers from the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 4-B in a lightning strike here on Wednesday night, May 14.
“It is with profound sadness that we confirm the untimely passing of two dedicated members of RMFB 4-B – Patrolmen Laudelino Samarita Lomio II and Ruzzel Jay Ferrer Fontarum—who were tragically struck by lightning during heavy rainfall while carrying out their duties inside the camp in Naujan, Oriental Mindoro on the evening of May 14, 2025,” PRO 4-B chief Police Brig. Gen. Roger L. Quesada said in a statement on Thursday, May 15.
“Despite immediate assistance and CPR rendered by fellow officers, both were declared dead on arrival at the Mindoro Medical Center,” Quesada said.
“Their tragic loss is a painful reminder of the silent risks our personnel face in service to the nation. On behalf of PRO-Mimaropa, we extend our deepest condolences to their families and loved ones. We are committed to providing full assistance, benefits, and honors to ensure their sacrifices are rightfully recognized and their families supported during this difficult time.”

A colleague, Police Corporal Fernan Macuha, said heavy rain occurred in the area and the victims were manning their posts inside the RMFB 4-B headquarters when they were hit.
Another colleague, Police Patrolman John Cyrill Hilario, saw the victims lying on the ground during a roving inspection.
They were taken to the Mindoro Medical Center in Calapan City where they were declared dead.
