The Muntinlupa City government ordered its personnel to remove campaign materials used in the May 12 national and local elections.
This was in compliance with an order by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) asking candidates and parties to remove their campaign materials in five days from May 12.
Newly reelected Mayor Ruffy Biazon said he ordered employees of the Environmental Sanitation Center, Lake Management Office and Engineering Department to remove the materials from all places in Muntinlupa.
He said the campaign materials will be recycled for livelihood projects for women.
“At bilang bahagi ng ating sustainability efforts, gagamitin muli ang tarpaulins para sa livelihood projects ng ating kababaihan sa tulong ng Gender and Development Office. Pakiusap ko rin po sa lahat ng kandidato at supporters: makiisa po tayo sa cleanup efforts. Magtulungan tayo para panatilihing malinis ang Muntinlupa (And as part of our sustainability efforts, the tarpaulins will be reused for livelihood projects of our women with the help of the Gender and Development Office. I also appeal to all candidates and supporters: let's join in the cleanup efforts. Let's work together to keep Muntinlupa clean),” he posted on Facebook.
Comelec said the order was based on Resolution 11086 and non-compliance can be considered a violation and may result in penalties from Comelec or any local government unit.
It also urged candidates and parties to conduct activities for carbon offsetting like tree planting.
