- MSpectrum Inc., the solar arm of Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), said it has partnered with Southeast Asia Retail Inc., the company that manages Landers Superstore.
The solar subsidiary of Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) announced that it is set to power grocery chain Landers Superstore with solar energy.
In a statement on Thursday, May 15, MSpectrum Inc. said it has partnered with Southeast Asia Retail Inc., the company that manages Landers.
Under the agreement, MSpectrum is set to install a 600-kilowatt-peak (kWp) solar rooftop facility at Landers Cebu, which is slated to deliver around 960,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean power annually.
This partnership stems from last year’s collaboration, during which MSpectrum installed solar rooftop systems across multiple Landers branches.
“This will enable Landers Cebu to reduce 683.71 metric tons (MT) in carbon footprint—equivalent to over 31,000 trees planted and more than 2.72 million kilometers (km) reduced in vehicle travel per year,” MSpectrum stated.
In addition, Landers Fairview will also receive a 930 kWp solar rooftop facility that will be able to produce 1.19 million kWh of clean energy every year.
According to MSpectrum, this is set to minimize carbon emissions by 845.95 MT, which is equal to planting about 38,000 trees and cutting back on 3.37 million-km worth of vehicle travel annually.
Pieter Dhoni Lukman, chief operating officer (COO) of Southeast Asia Retail, welcomed the clean partnership as a strategy for eco-friendly initiatives.
“We’re proud to partner with MSpectrum as we take meaningful steps toward becoming more environmentally responsible. Sustainability is a growing priority not just for the company, but for me personally as well. This solar initiative is not only about reducing operational costs, but also about contributing to the country’s efforts in promoting clean energy,” he said.
Ma. Cecilia Domingo, president and chief executive officer (CEO) of MSpectrum, added that these projects would help avoid carbon emissions and optimize energy consumption through a green initiative.
“We are honored to support Landers in this important transition and look forward to continuing our partnership as we work toward a more sustainable future,” she said.
Since its establishment eight years ago, MSpectrum has installed over 80 megawatts (MW) worth of solar projects.
