ILOILO CITY — The Miraflores and Marquez families retained power in Aklan as their political slate known as “Tibyog Aklan” emerged triumphant in the May 12 polls.
WINNING Aklan provincial officials have been proclaimed. They are congressman-elect Florencio 'Joeben' Miraflores of the second district (fifth from left), reelected Gov. Gov. Jose Enrique “Joen” Miraflores was reelected for a second term by garnering 232,489 votes.
His father former Gov. Florencio “Joeben” Miraflores became the congressman-elect of the second district. Joeben won the heated congressional race against his cousin, Rep. Teodorico “Ted” Haresco Jr.
“Rayang kadaeag-an hay inyo gid ra. Ro inyong hugot nga pagpati sa atong kawsa it malimpyo nga pagdumaea, ag ro inyong pagbaton sa mga prinsipyo nga akong ginarepresentar (This win is your win. You gave trust to the platform of clean governance and the principles I represent),” said the congressman-elect.
The Marquez family retained the congressional seat in the first district.
Jesus “Jess” Marquez defeated Rodel Ramos.
Jess will succeed his father Rep. Carlito Marquez.
The elder Marquez served as Aklan governor from 2004 to 2013.
Rep. Marquez became congressman in 2016 and authored Republic Act No. 11077 which created two congressional districts in Aklan in 2018.
In 2019, Rep. Marquez became congressman for the newly created first district.
While he can still run for a third and final term, he fielded his son Jess.
Also elected under Tibyog Aklan’s slate was Mayor Dexter Caliso of Balete, who won as vice governor.
Vice Gov. Reynaldo “Boy” Quimpo was elected as a member of the Aklan provincial board for the first district.
Also elected as provincial board members in the first district are Mark Ace Bautista, Mark Quimpo, Teddy Tupas, and Apolinar Cleope.
Elected Provincial Board Members for Aklan 2nd District are Jose Haresco, Romeo Dalisay, Bayani Cordova, Bob Augusto Legaspi, and Jupiter Gallenero.
Meanwhile, the provincial capital of Kalibo town reelected Mayor Juris Bautista Sucro.
