Mendoza secures fresh mandate in Cotabato

DAVAO CITY – Reelected Cotabato Gov. Emmylou Taliño-Mendoza thanked her supporters after winning the gubernatorial race in the May 12 elections.
Mendoza said that she is grateful for the fresh mandate to serve Cotabato for the next three years.
She and running mate Vice Gov.-elect Ella Taliño-Taray
were proclaimed by the Provincial Board of Canvassers
 on Wednesday, May 14.

Taray, 27, a niece of Mendoza, is set to become the youngest vice governor to serve the province.
Mendoza and Taray trounced the pair of brothers Emmanuel “Manny” and Efren Piñol.
She earned 414,043 votes while Piñol had 234,393 or a difference of 179,650.
Mendoza won in all 17 towns of the province except in Kidapawan City, the bailiwick of Emmanuel.
Taray garnered 349,374 votes against Efren’s 269, 507.
“Ang ating panalo ay tagumpay ng bawat Cotabateño at ito ay bunga ng pagtupad natin sa mga programang layong i-angat ang antas ng pamumuhay sa lalawigan,” the governor said.

Mendoza is set to become the longest-serving governor in the history of the province with her reelection.
She is set to break the record of Carlos Cajelo, who served as appointed governor of the province from 1972 to 1984 during the Martial Law era.
Mendoza rose from the ranks, starting as a Sangguniang Kabataan official in her hometown of Carmen in 1993.
Two years later, she was elected as board member of the province's first district.
She was voted Cotabato first district representative in 2001 and completed three terms until 2010.
Mendoza is the third woman governor to lead Cotabato.
As she is set to serve the province on her fifth term, Mendoza appealed to her constituents to continue supporting the advocacies and programs of the provincial government.
“Hinihiling ko ang inyong patuloy na pakikiisa sa panibagong yugto ng ating paglalakbay tungo sa mas maunlad, masagana, at mapayapang Cotabato.”
