A man has been arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Mandaue City for posting bomb threats in social media.
The NBI Central Visayas Regional Office (NBI-CEVRO) identified the suspect as Gian Carlo Dela Cruz Maningo who was arrested last May 13 at his residence in Casili Hills Subdivision in Casili, Mandaue City.
“Subject Maningo did not resist arrest, in fact admitted that he is the owner/administrator of the Facebook account which made the posts,” said NBI-CEVRO.
It was referring to the Facebook account “Gi Maningo” which posted on Facebook: “5 million reward to bomb all Comelec site @highlight.”
The NBI-CEVRO said that Maningo will be charged with willful threats involving bombs in violation of Presidential Decree 1727 and inciting to commit terrorism in violation of Section 9 of Republic Act (RA) No. 11479, the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020.
It said it acted on requests to investigate received separately from Justice Undersecretary Nicolas Felix L. Ty and Comelec Region 7 Director Francisco G. Pobe.
“Immediately a technical surveillance of the FB account ‘Gi Maningo’ was made,” it also said.
“It was discovered that FB account ‘Gi Maningo’ has been commenting on various group, such as, Barangay Capitol Site, Most Wanted Fugitives and the likes, offering reward to anyone who can plant and detonate a bomb at Comelec sites for P5 million,” it added.
