CEBU CITY – It seems like Kerwin Espinosa has buckled down to serious business after he was elected mayor of Albuera, a town in Leyte province once considered as the “drug capital in Eastern Visayas.”

Espinosa, who once confessed to being a drug lord, posted a photo on Facebook showing him reading a book on the Local Government Code.
“No time wasted for the new challenges of my life. You’ll learn how to manage all your obligations when you have the perseverance to do so,” the caption of the post read.
The photo has since garnered hundreds of reactions, comments, and shares after it was posted around 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 15.
Espinosa (14,919 votes) defeated two other candidates in the May 12 elections. Provincial board member Vince Rama came in second with 9,744 while reelectionist Albuera Mayor Sixto dela Victoria landed at third with 3,482 votes.
Albuera will be run by the Espinosas as Kerwin’s sister RR was elected as vice mayor.
In a separate post, Espinosa was shown visiting the grave of his father, Rolando Sr., who was the mayor of Albuera when he was gunned down inside the Baybay City Provincial Jail in November 2016.
“Ako ang mupadayon sa mga nindot nimong plano sa Albuera. Tabangi mi ni vice RR ug ang akong konsehales (I will be the one to continue your good plans for Albuera. Help me and vice RR and our councilors),” Kerwin wrote.
The father and son were linked to illegal drugs trade but Kerwin vowed that he will fight illegal drugs as mayor of Albuera.
Kerwin also trended on social media when he announced one of his plans for the town on Facebook Live.
“Ang tari ibalik ta sa kada barangay labi na karon na Mayo na (We will bring back cockfights in every barangay especially now that it is already May),” he said.
