CEBU CITY – The so-called Duterte factor affected how Cebuanos chose their senatorial candidates in the recent midterm elections.
Senatorial candidates who were endorsed by former President Rodrigo Duterte dominated the senatorial race in Cebu.
As of 11:07 a.m. on Thursday, May 15, Sen. Bong Go had the most votes with 1,817,038, followed by fellow PDP-Laban bet reelectionist Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa with 1,605,897.
Lawyer Jimmy Bondoc and Rep. Rodante Marcoleta, came in third and fourth with 995,729 and 921,246 votes, respectively.
Camille Villar, who was endorsed by Vice President Sara Duterte, ranked fifth with 907,574 votes.
Other Duterte-backed candidates who drew significant votes in Cebu were actor Phillip Salvador (886,875) and lawyers Raul Lambino (841,880) and
Jayvee Hinlo (786,412) and former Executive Secretary Vic Rodriguez (681,638).
Sen. Imee Marcos, who was also endorsed by the Vice President, was among the Top 15 vote-getters in Cebu with 576,162.
Go, Dela Rosa, Marcoleta, Villar, and Marcos are currently in the winning circle as the canvassing of votes nears completion.
