TACLOBAN CITY -- Vehicles started to pile up after the Department of Public Works and Highways-8 imposed a temporary three-metric ton maximum gross weight limit on the San Juanico Bridge.
3-ton load limit imposed on San Juanico Bridge by DPWH
DPWH-8 Regional Director Edgar Tabacon called for understanding and cooperation from the public in their effort to protect motorists.
“We have imposed this load limit of the San Juanico Bridge due to its deteriorating condition,” he said.
The order is also in compliance with the memorandum dated May 8 issued by DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, together with updates discussed with other agencies during a coordination meeting on Wednesday, May 14.
“Those allowed to cross the bridge are vehicles weighing three tons and below (four-wheeled or small vehicles) only.”
Those crossing the bridge must use the centerline, proceeding one at a time, and should follow all on-site traffic instructions.
“This measure is strictly enforced to ensure motorist safety, mitigate risks associated with identified damage, and facilitate essential repair and maintenance work.”
