Reelected Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto stressed that he has no plan to run for higher government positions following his landslide victory against his rivals in the recently concluded May midterm elections.
Mayor Vico on calls for him to run for higher office: Wala po akong balak
Sotto made the statement during a TV interview where he was asked if he has plans to run for a national position soon.
"Wala po akong balak. Yan naman po ang lagi kong sinasabi, wala akong balak (I have no plans. That's what I always say, I have no plans)," Sotto said, adding that he hopes people can just let him do his job as the city mayor and refrain from making a guessing game on his alleged plan to run for a higher office.
"Every day, let's take it one day at a time. Let's do the best where we are right now. Focus po tayo (Let's focus here)," he added.
Pasigueños have once again placed their trust on the mayor who is now on his third and final term.
Sotto won with 351,392 votes, far ahead of his rivals, Sarah Discaya with 29,591 votes, Cory Palma with 308 votes, and Eagle Ayaon with 296 votes.
His running mate, Vice Mayor Dodot Jaworski, was also reelected with 290,237 votes, defeating Iyo-Carucho Bernardo, who received 72,227 votes.
Meanwhile, incumbent Rep. Roman Romulo retained his seat at the Congress with 348,939 votes, winning over lawyer Christian “Ian” Sia, who got 16,829 votes.
“Nagpapasalamat po ako sa lahat ng Pasigueño sa kanilang tiwala, sa kanilang suporta, at sa fresh mandate na ito (I thank all Pasigueños for their trust, their support, and for this fresh mandate),” the mayor said after his proclamation.
“Pagtitibayin natin yung mga nasimulang pagbabago, reporma. Kailangang siguraduhin natin na ma-institutionalize, ibig sabihin dapat kung sino yung mga susunod na leader sa Pasig ay sisiguraduhin na natin na mas mahirap nang gumawa ng masama, mas mahirap nang maging kurap, mas madali nang maging mabuti, at mas madali na maging tapat sa LGU ng Pasig (We will strengthen the reforms and changes we have started. We need to make sure they are institutionalized, that means ensuring that whoever leads Pasig next will find it harder to do wrong, harder to be corrupt, and easier to do good and remain honest in the Pasig City government),” he noted.
