- The rally came shortly after the Commission on Elections (Comelec) proclaimed Jeannie Sandoval as the winning candidate for mayor.
Based on a video circulating on social media, the rallyists were chanting slogans such as “Ilabas ang boto, ilabas ang boto! (Show the vote, show the vote!),” ‘’Mayor Jaye! Mayor Jaye!” and “Recount! Recount!” to express their discontent over the outcome of the local elections.
The rally came shortly after the Commission on Elections (Comelec) proclaimed Sandoval as the winning candidate for mayor.
Tensions rose as Lacson-Noel’s supporters demanded transparency and a full accounting of votes.
As of this writing, there has been no official statement from either camp regarding the accusations raised during the protest.
According to Malabon City Police Station (MCPS) chief Col. Jay Baybayan, around 300 supporters of Lacson-Noel participated in the said rally while 105 police personnel were deployed in the area to maintain peace and order.
Baybayan added that the rallyists voluntarily left the area at 3:55 p.m.
Sandoval garnered a total of 120,305 votes while Lacson-Noel got 65,432 votes, leading to Sandoval’s successful re-election bid.
