He may have campaigned hard to secure the victories of his fellow administration bets, but presumptive senator ACT-CIS Party-list Rep. Erwin Tulfo says he's willing to work with senators from either side of the political fence.
“What the Filipinos need to see is a collaborating crop of senators and public officials, so my first order of business once officially elected to the Senate is I will talk to both sides,” Tulfo said in a statement Tuesday, May 13.
“We will sit down together with the Senate President, the opposition, and everyone because we only have six years to keep our promises to the people,” he noted.
Tulfo has a comfortable spot within the winners' circle or top 12 in the Senate race based on partial and unofficial results of Monday's mid-term elections.
The same cannot be said about many of his fellow Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas senatorial candidates.
“We are at this point where we really must think of our next steps when it comes to work. We must make sure that we will not disappoint them and give them the service that they deserve from the government they elected,” said Tulfo, who will soon join his brother Raffy in the Senate.
Aside from initiating cooperation among senators, Tulfo is also set to push legislative measures that will provide decent compensation for barangay officials and workers; review the Rice Tariffication Law and education sector budget, specifically for classrooms; increase medicines and equipment in hospitals across the country; institutionalize the Sustainable Livelihood Program; and strengthen support for overseas Filipino workers, among others.
