Months of police preparations and regular ground inspections for security adjustments paid off in Metro Manila as the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) delivered a peaceful and orderly conduct of midterm elections in the metropolis.
NCRPO director Maj. Gen. Anthony A. Aberin said around 22,000 personnel were tapped to secure the elections in Metro Manila, backed by force multipliers that helped the police secure precincts, terminals and key routes.
“This is a result of months of meticulous preparation, round-the-clock monitoring, and real-time coordination with election stakeholders, this year’s electoral exercise stood as a model of law and order, proving once more that peaceful elections are possible when an entire community moves as one,” said Aberin.
“We witnessed more than just the exercise of voting rights—we saw a collective stand for peace and integrity,” he added.
Aberin said only minor public safety issues were recorded but were immediately responded to by Metro Manila policemen.
“What is highlighted is that no major security issues are recorded within voting areas and its periphery,” he said.
Aberin said the security coverage will continue until the end of the election period with expected security adjustments depending on prevailing circumstances on the ground.
Trash
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) collected around 6.1 tons of garbage, mostly left by voters after lining up to cast votes in various polling centers during the May 12 election day.
In a consolidated report released on Tuesday, May 13, the MMDA said the garbage is equivalent to 288 pieces of large plastic bags that were collected across Metro Manila.
Most of the trash was collected in Malabon, Manila, Quezon City and Parañaque City.
The 6,100 kilos of garbage collected did not include tarpaulins and other election materials as MMDA personnel are currently conducting operations in coordination with the local government units.
