The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Tuesday, May 13 warned of a high chance of rain showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening across most of the country.
PAGASA weather specialist Chenel Dominguez said the dominant weather systems affecting the country are the frontal system and easterlies.
The frontal system, formed by the convergence of cold and warm air masses, may bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Batanes, Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Apayao, Abra, and Kalinga.
Dominguez warned that flash floods and landslides are possible, especially during moderate to heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with generally warm conditions in the morning, followed by isolated rain showers or thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening, due to the easterly winds.
The public is advised to remain vigilant as flash floods and landslides may also occur during severe thunderstorms.
Thunderstorm activity is becoming more frequent as the country transitions from the warm and dry season to the rainy season.
The rainy season, characterized by the prevalence of the southwest monsoon (habagat), typically begins in the latter part of May or early June.
