ILOILO CITY — Paolo Z. Roxas, son of former Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas, was defeated in the Capiz first district congressional race by Pinuno party-list Rep. Howard Guintu.
“Nag-husga na ang mayorya. Tapos na ang eleksyon. Bisan indi pabor sa akon ang desisyon, hugot ko gina-baton ini (The majority have decided. The election is over. Although the decision is not in my favor, I firmly accept it),” Paolo said in a concession statement on Tuesday, May 13.
Paolo garnered 109,249 votes against the 131,545 of Guintu.
Paolo was unable to win despite the staunch endorsement of Gov. Fredenil “Oto” Castro and Roxas City Mayor Ronnie Dadivas.
Paolo thanked his supporters and the allies of the political coalition known as One Capiz.
He is the great-grandson of former President Manuel Roxas and the grandson of former Sen. Gerardo “Gerry” Roxas Sr.
Paolo failed to follow the congressional footsteps of his father Mar, his uncle Gerardo “Dinggoy” Roxas Jr., his grandfather Gerry, and his great grandfather Manuel.
