Lopez-led First Gen Corp. (FGen) has partnered with coconut manufacturer and exporter Axelum Resources Corp. to integrate renewable energy (RE) into its operations.
In a statement, FGen said it would supply up to 5.2 megawatts (MW) worth of clean energy to Axelum’s manufacturing facility in Medina, Misamis Oriental.
The RE would be sourced from the Mt. Apo geothermal power plant, which is owned and operated by FGen’s Energy Development Corp.n (EDC).
This deal was made through the retail competition and open access (RCOA) program, allowing Axelum to choose its preferred retail electricity supplier as it has a power demand that meets the 500-kilowatt (kW) required threshold.
Henry Raperoga, president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Axelum, said that this partnership stems from the company’s core sustainability agenda.
“From a broader view, this move will also provide us with reliable energy supply leading to operational cost efficiencies, lower carbon emissions and positive environmental impacts in the long term,” he added.
FGen’s chief engagement officer Carlo Vega added that integrating renewables into manufacturing facilities would push decarbonization efforts and rationalize electricity use.
“It is our privilege to partner with Axelum to help drive sustainability in the manufacture and export of one of our country’s major commodities. Geothermal power is the only RE technology that can run 24/7 and can support major manufacturing operations,” he said.
