Fernando and Alvarado, considered top rivals in the gubernatorial race, went early to cast their votes on Monday, during the 2025 National and Local Elections.
Fernando voted in Brgy. Tabang, Guiguinto, while Alvarado voted in Brgy. Sto. Rosario, Hagonoy, Bulacan.
Fernando and Alvarado were once political allies. They served together at the Provincial Capitol for 12 years—Alvarado as governor and Fernando as vice governor from 2010 to 2019.
From 2019 to 2022, Fernando became governor while Alvarado was vice governor.
In 2022, they became rivals, and Fernando won by a landslide. This 2025 election marked their second face-off.
Meanwhile, voting at a mall was smooth and organized. Many senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs) came early to vote.
They said the mall setup was more comfortable and easier to access than regular polling stations.
By 5 a.m., mall staff and election workers were already assisting voters.
Comelec officials said this setup helped people who usually had a hard time voting due to physical challenges.
Voting continued until 7 p.m., and officials encouraged everyone assigned to mall precincts to vote before closing.
