Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines launches legacy book, honors San Miguel Corp.

The Chamber of Commerce of the Philippine Islands (CCPI) celebrated its rich history and future vision on April 30, 2025, at its Intramuros building with the unveiling of its Legacy Book and the presentation of Exemplar Awards to San Miguel Corporation and its president, Ramon S. Ang.

The Legacy Book, titled “From CHAMBER HISTORY to NAVIGATING THE FUTURE: From 8 Epochs to Economic Compass Pillars 5 (ECOMP-P5),” marks the Chamber's first publication that chronicles its journey from its establishment in 1886 through eight significant periods of Philippine economic history. 

The book also introduced the ECOMP-P5 framework, intended as a guide for national renewal and economic direction. 

Jose Luis U. Yulo, Jr., Yulo, Jr., CCPI president, said the book serves as both a tribute to the Chamber's founders and a guide for future economic endeavors.

San Miguel, a founding member of the Chamber, received the Exemplar Award for its sustained leadership and contributions to Philippine industry and nation-building. 

Yulo said the award recognizes the conglomerate’s enduring contributions to the nation. 

Cecile Ang represented San Miguel and accepted the award on behalf of his father.

The gathering, which brought together dignitaries, diplomats, and business leaders, commemorated the Chamber's historical significance and its forward-looking economic framework.

It also commemorated the historical significance of April for the Chamber, noting the Royal Decree issued on April 9, 1886, by King Alfonso XIII of Spain, which formally established the institution. 

The Chamber's building in Intramuros, a national heritage site inaugurated by President Manuel L. Quezon, provided an appropriate setting for the event.

OIC-Office of the Executive Deputy Director Rosario V. Sapitan of the NHCP was present, highlighting the historical importance of the location. H.E. Miguel Utray, Ambassador of Spain, and Paul Taylor, Commercial Counselor of the Embassy of the United States, also attended the event.
