The father and daughter tandem of Gerardo Calderon and Jeri Mae Calderon of Angono, Rizal was given a fresh mandate by voters in the Art Capital of the Country.
Vice Mayor Gerardo Calderon was proclaimed as the new mayor of the town, while his daughter, incumbent mayor, Jeri Mae Calderon, was named vice mayor.
The incoming mayor garnered a total of 41,048 votes while Jeri Mae got 40,054 votes. They both ran unopposed
Frendy Del Rosario, Angono’s Commission on Elections (Comelec) officer told the Manila Bulletin that a total of 51,799 voters cast their votes out of the 70,071 registered voters.
Although the voter turnout was 73.92 percent, all the votes of the 51,799 were counted and canvassed, without a major glitch in the counting, Del Rosario said.
Even prior to the canvassing, Rico Diokno, head of the legal team of the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) in Angono told the Manila Bulletin that the voting process went smoothly except for some minor problems encountered by some members of the vulnerable sector.
“The members of the PPCRV-Angono were there to assist the senior citizens, the pregnant, and the persons with disability,” Diokno said.
The Calderons, known in the town for their battle-cry, “Mag-Ama, Magkasama Sa Mga Programa” vow to continue the so-called Angono Dream, a multi-faceted program that covers infrastructure, environment protection, zero squatter, health services, livelihood, education, among others.
Dozens of supporters of the Calderons and the councilors who were waiting at the municipal hall grounds, cheered as the winners emerged from the canvassing area at the Sangguniang Bayan session hall during the early hours of Tuesday, May 13.
