BACOLOD CITY – Mayor Albee Benitez and Rep. Greg Gasataya emerged victorious in the elections here.
Benitez and Gasataya were proclaimed by the City Board of Canvassers, as the newly-elected representative of the lone district, and mayor, respectively, at the City Council Session Hall at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) on Tuesday, May 13.

Benitez (164,145 votes) bested former Mayor and Rep. Evelio Leonardia (119,431 votes). Other congressional candidates were Roger Abanid, Ed Gulmatico, and Romy Gustilo.
“I am deeply humbled by the trust you have given me once again, this time, to serve you as your Congressman,” Benitez said in a Facebook post.
From City Hall to Congress, I carry with me the same commitment to uplift lives, push for meaningful reforms, and fight for what Bacolod deserves, he added. The work continues, and I am ready, he said.
Gasataya (157,150 votes) beat Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran (143,307).
Both were former allies under Leonardia’s political party.
Gasataya thanked those who trusted him to continue serving this city.
“With a heart shaped by our shared stories and struggles, our commitment to making meaningful change, one that lifts all, leaves no one behind, and spreads hope, remains,” he said in an online post.
Familiaran conceded defeat and congratulated Gasataya.
The vice mayor thanked the people of Bacolod for their support.
“My fellow Bacolodnons, with heartfelt gratitude I say thank you Bacolod. The results of this election have made clear, that the next Mayor will be Greg Gasataya,” Familiaran said in a statement.
Benitez also defeated Leonardia in the mayoral race here during the last elections.
Councilor Claudio Jesus Puentevella was elected vice mayor.
The top three winners belong to the Team Asenso slate under Benitez.
Elected councilors were Barangay Singcang-Airport Chairman Caesar Distrito, reelectionists Israel Salanga, Em Ang, Jude Thaddeus Sayson, Jason Villarosa, and Celia Flor, Dindo Ramos, Bobby Rojas, former Councilor Wilson Gamboa Jr., reelectionist Pao Sy, Homer Bais, and re-electionist Al Victor Espino.
Majority of the councilors-elect were under the slate of Team Asenso. Gamboa is an independent candidate.
Canvassers officially and successfully transmitted the election results at 3:20 a.m.
This city has 398 clustered precincts and 355,880 registered voters. Only 309,413 registered voters cast their ballots here which had a voter’s turnout of 86.94 percent.
