33 areas may face 'dangerous' heat on May 13, PAGASA warns
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has identified 33 areas likely to face dangerous heat index levels on Tuesday, May 13, with temperatures in some places expected to feel as high as 45 to 46 degrees Celsius (°C).
Based on PAGASA’s latest forecast, Cavite City, Cavite may record the highest heat index at 46°C.
Three areas, Daet, Camarines Norte; Legazpi City, Albay; and Pili, Camarines Sur, may register a heat index of 45°C.
A heat index of 44°C is also forecast in Pasay City, Metro Manila; Dagupan City, Pangasinan; and Masbate City, Masbate.
Eleven areas are projected to experience a heat index of 43°C: Iba, Zambales; Muñoz, Nueva Ecija; Infanta, Quezon; Calapan, Oriental Mindoro; Coron, Palawan; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; Roxas City, Capiz; Mambusao, Capiz; Iloilo City, Iloilo; Dumangas, Iloilo; and Guiuan, Eastern Samar.
Meanwhile, 15 areas may register a heat index of 42°C. These are Quezon City, Metro Manila; Olongapo City, Zambales; San Ildefonso, Bulacan; Camiling, Tarlac; Tanauan, Batangas; Alabat, Quezon; Puerto Princesa City, Palawan; Cuyo, Palawan; La Carlota, Negros Occidental; Catarman, Northern Samar; Tacloban City, Leyte; Baybay, Leyte; Borongan, Eastern Samar; Maasin, Southern Leyte; and Butuan City, Agusan del Norte.
PAGASA classifies heat index values between 42°C and 51°C as dangerous due to the increased risk of heat cramps and heat exhaustion.
It added that prolonged exposure may lead to heatstroke, particularly among vulnerable individuals.
