Vice President Sara Duterte has told her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, that more than two of his “DuterTen” Senate bets might make it to the upper chamber.

In an interview with the media on May 12, after casting her vote in Davao City, the Vice President shared that she recently talked on the phone with her father who inquired about the fate of his Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) Senate bets.
“And binigyan ko siya ng realistic na numbers and then sinabi niya, ‘Well, kung iyan ang realistic, iiwan na lang sa Diyos ‘yung miracles’ (I gave him realistic numbers and he said, ‘Well, if that’s what’s realistic, we will leave the miracles up to God’),” she said.
“Pero binigyan ko siya ng number na (But I gave him a number that’s) more than two. I based that number on na mga surveys na nakikita ko, both surveys na pinapagawa sa national and pinapagawa ng mga local candidates (the surveys that I see, both surveys commissioned by national and local candidates),” she added.
In the latest SWS and Pulse Asia surveys, incumbent Senators Bong Go and Ronald Dela Rosa are both in the top five of the Magic 12, while SAGIP Party-list Rep. Rodante Marcoleta is in the margins of the Top 12.
Other members of the PDP-Laban senatorial slate are lawyers Jimmy Bondoc, Jayvee Hinlo, Raul Lambino, and Vic Rodriguez, former actor Philip Salvador, Dr. Richard Mata, and detained Pastor Apollo Quiboloy.
With the campaign and the election soon over, the former president asked his daughter to focus on his case before the International Criminal Court (ICC), with Duterte assuring him that she just needs to finish some projects at the Office of the Vice President (OVP).
The former president is currently detained at the Scheveningen Prison in The Hague, Netherlands for charges of crimes against humanity of murder in relation to his brutal war on drugs campaign.
The Vice President, however, denied that she campaigned for the DuterTen candidates to protect herself from the upcoming impeachment trial in July and her father’s case in the ICC.
“Tiningnan ko siya (I am looking at it) as one group of individuals, hopefully, soon to be senators who can continue to push for ‘yung sinasabi natin, tunay na pagpabago na nasimulan ni [dating] pangulong Duterte na ‘yun din iyong platform noon (for what we’re saying, true change that [former] president Duterte began, which was also our platform in) 2022 but apparently, hindi natin nakikita ngayon (we do not see now) so we want to push for that--unity and continuity,” she added.
