Duterte arrived at 8 a.m. at Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School (DRANHS), where she was warmly welcomed by some of the voters in the public school. She gamely greeted some of people along the hallway.
Wearing a black polo shirt, black pants, and rubber shoes, Duterte voted inside cluster precinct number 352.
The Vice President was accompanied by her husband and lawyer Mans Carpio. She spoke to the media after casting her vote.
In an interview, Duterte shared her observation when asked about her voting experience.
“Yung sa akin naman medyo mabagal lang. Naglo-loading siya ng mga ilang seconds lang, hindi automatic iyong kanyang pabasa ng ballot. Yan lang sa akin (As for me, it’s a bit slow. It was loading and took a few seconds, the reading of the ballot was not automatic. That’s what happened to me),” she said.
“Yung nakita ko nauna sa akin, hindi agad binasa ang ballot niya, nilabas ng machine ang ballot, tapos inulit na nila the second time. At ‘yung sa akin medyo mabagal lang siya. Yan lang naman (I saw the one before me, his ballot wasn’t read immediately, the machine ejected it, then they repeated it for the second time. Mine was a bit slow. That’s all),” she added.
Asked why she was wearing black, the official replied: "These are dark times," noting the current sorry state of the country under the Marcos administration.
Her father, former president and Davao mayoralty candidate Rodrigo Duterte, is also in the list of voters at DRANHS. Her younger brother, incumbent Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte, is his running mate for vice mayor.
The elder Duterte, however, is currently detained at the Scheveningen Prison in The Hague, Netherlands for charges of crimes against humanity of murder in relation to his brutal war on drugs campaign.
Before the end of the campaign season, the Vice President attended the Miting de Avance of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) in Manila and local officials of Davao in Tres de Mayo, Digos City.
There, she pushed for her father’s and PDP-Laban’s senatorial bets, also known as DuterTEN, as well as her personal picks—Senator Imee Marcos and Las Piñas Rep. Camille Villar—for the Senate.
