ILOILO CITY – The May 12 mid-term elections in Capiz province were marked by the death of a female senior citizen and the arrest of two people for taking photos of their ballots.
Reports from the Capiz Police Provincial Office said the death was recorded in President Roxas town while the two arrests were made in Mambusao municipality.
Police Capt. Merry Chris dela Cruz, CPPO information chief, said the 68-year-old woman was inside a voting precinct when she fell off her chair.
The President Roxas Municipal Police Station said a bystander tried to resuscitate the victim until medics arrived.
The woman was taken to Bailan District Hospital in neighboring Panitan town but was declared dead on arrival (DOA) by the attending physician.
Provincial police chief Police Col. Albert Tapulao said the two people arrested in a precinct in Barangay Sinondojan, Mambusao will be charged for violating the Omnibus Election Code.
One of them was a 57-year-old security guard. The Board of Election Inspectors (BEI) immediately reported him to police on duty after a poll watcher saw him taking photos of his ballot.
