Together with her youngest daughter, Jillian, the former official lined up with Nagueños before being able to enter the polling precinct.
After voting, she gamely showed the indelible ink on her finger to the waiting members of the press.
The former vice president, despite being wooed to run for senator by her supporters, has decided to file her Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for Naga City mayor, a post that her late husband, former interior secretary Jesse Robredo, held for two decades.
If she wins in what political analysts believe would be a landslide victory, Robredo said she would prioritize good governance and people’s participation in Naga City.
“At the core of it all (priorities), iyong pag strengthen ng mechanisms para sa mabuting pamamahala, (strengthen the mechanisms of good governance) transparency, accountability. Sa amin kasi, big kami sa people empowerment (We are big on people empowerment here),” she stressed.
“Dito sa amin may working talagang people's council. Kailangan lang parang bigyan ng heart and soul (Here, there’s a working people’s council. It just needs heart and soul),” she explained.
While the former vice president lamented that the people’s council was not being maximized at times, she vowed to refocus the governance of Naga City on people participation, which she said was one of the pillars of good governance.
She also plans to strengthen the “transparency mechanisms” in the local government, fix the current problems and programs in the city, and further empower the youth.
Citing some of the youth-centric programs her late husband started, Robredo underscored the need to allow the youth to participate in governance as early as possible.
“Maraming mahusay na bata dito sa amin, kailangan lang bigyan ng pagkakataon na humusay pang lalo. Tingin ko ‘yun ang future ng city namin, mas bigyan ng pagkakataon iyong mga bata (There are a lot of outstanding young people here, they just need an opportunity to be better. I think they’re the future of our city, give opportunities to the youth),” she added.
