Parañaque 1st District Rep. Edwin Olivarez, poised to reclaim the city mayoralty, cast his vote early at the Parañaque High School-Main alongside fellow candidates from Team Bagong Parañaque.
“I’m very confident that the majority, if not all, candidates in the city’s two districts of Team Bagong Parañaque, will be given fresh mandate,” Olivarez said.
Olivarez, who chairs the House Committee on Government Enterprises and Privatization, previously served as Parañaque City mayor from 2013 to 2022.
He noted that reelectionist Vice Mayor Joan Villafuerte and all eight candidates for councilors in District I and II have been leading in pre-election surveys.
His younger brother, incumbent Mayor Eric Olivarez, is running unopposed. Eric, like Edwin, was previously a House member from 2013 to 2022.
The Olivarez family has been long been known in Parañaque public service. Their patriarch, Dr. Pablo Olivarez, served as mayor from 1992 to 1995.
Edwin’s eldest son, Paolo, -- who ranked first among councilors in the 2022 elections -- is seeking reelection in the 1st District.
