During the first half of the midterm Election Day, National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) reported that its facilities and transmission lines remained stable—crucial for ensuring ballot machines operate smoothly throughout the day.
In data revealed by the NGCP as of 11 a.m., Luzon’s power demand was at 9,220 megawatts (MW), while the region’s overall capacity stood at 17,168 MW.
In the Visayas, demand reached 1,735 MW, while the overall supply in the region stood at 3,048 MW.
Mindanao’s power demand was at 1,615 MW, while its capacity was at 3,636 MW.
The grid corporation is regularly monitoring the country’s energy supply and demand, especially during voting day.
Last week, NGCP suspended maintenance activities until May 16. This means that there would be no repairs or construction activities inside substations and near power lines.
It also has a 24/7 operations command center in place, covering system operations as well as operations and maintenance, to address any power-related issues throughout the week.
Meralco’s contingency measures
Zooming into the National Capital Region (NCR) area, Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) assured over the weekend that its distribution utility (DU) has made its crews and personnel available in case of any power issues or unexpected outages.
Meralco crews are also on standby in over 3,000 polling precincts within its service area today.
