- Incumbent Navotas City Mayor John Rey Tiangco underscored the importance of reviewing the voter's receipt.
In a video posted on social media, Tiangco underscored the importance of reviewing the voter's receipt.
“Sagrado po ang ating boto, kaya bumoto nang tama at i-check ang resibo (Our vote is sacred, so vote wisely and check the receipt),” he said.
Tiangco shared that he voted at Navotas Central School along with his wife, Barbie, and completed his ballot by selecting candidates for senator, local positions, and a party list. However, upon reviewing his receipt, he was surprised to see that an overvote had been recorded.
“Imposible po 'to dahil binilang ko po 'yan at alam kong wala akong pagkakamali (That’s impossible because I counted everything, and I know I didn’t make a mistake),” he said.
This prompted him to formally dispute the result by filing a certificate of challenge — a mechanism that allows voters to contest discrepancies in their voter receipts.
“Kaya chinallenge po natin. Kung mangyari man sa inyo ito, puwede kayong lumapit sa mga election officials at humingi ng Certificate of Challenge (So I filed a challenge. If this happens to you, you can approach the election officials and request a Certificate of Challenge),” he added.
He reminded the public to always double-check their receipts before leaving the precinct.
“Importante pong itama ang ating boto kung may pagkakamali, dahil sagrado po 'yan (It’s important to correct any mistake in our vote because it is sacred),” Tiangco emphasized.
