Technical glitches and power supply issues greeted the first few hours of the May 12 midterm elections in some areas in the country but the voting is generally going well, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.
PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo said the technical glitches and power interruptions were reported in some parts of Central Luzon, Northern Mindanao, Davao and Cordillera Administrative Region.
The power interruptions, according to Fajardo, were caused by electric transmission issues but these were resolved in some areas like the voting center in Pantangan National High School in Nueva Ecija.
Police forces were reinforced by over 201,000 personnel from various law enforcement agencies like the military and the Coast Guard in securing the midterm elections.
Fajardo said a total of 163,621 and all of them were tasked to secure strategic points across the country, including polling centers.
Based on the latest PNP data, a total of 34,494 voting centers were opened as of 7 a.m. on May 12, the figure represents 91.92 percent of the total number of polling centers across the country.
In Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), a total of 3,698 policemen were placed on standby for possible election duties.
Fajardo said the 3,698 policemen were trained as special election board and will be tapped in worse case scenarios due to security threats.
Police, however, would not disclose how many of them have been deployed for election duties.
