Vange Alinsug came out with a dazzling performance in Game 1 of the UAAP Season 87 women's volleyball finals, giving fans and the Bulldogs community something to look forward to with the nearing departure of longtime collegiate stars Belen and Solomon.
Playing in her third year as a Lady Bulldog, Alinsug, 22, embraced her role perfectly as a potent option of offense in NU's 25-17, 25-21, 13-25, 25-17 win over De La Salle University.
“‘Di naman po first time saken [at] samin, so mindset lang namin maglaro lang no’ng kung ano ‘yong nilalaro namin palagi, and nagi-start nga ‘yon sa training,” said Alinsug after scoring 21 points which gave NU a big lift for its bid of winning back-to-back titles.
Since her rookie year, the pride of Catmon, Cebu has been a pivotal piece for her team, forming a triple threat against enemies alongside Belen and Solomon.
“Actually, ayon nga sabi ni Bella, malaking factor samin ‘yong kilalang kilala namin ‘yong isa’t isa kasi sa training din naman naguumpisa kung may lutang o madadala rin sa laro,” the 5-foot-7 outside hitter continued.
“Ina-approach na namin ‘yon and pinaguusapan namin ‘yon, alam namin kung pano sya makakabawi,” she added.
With a chance to close out the series on Wednesday, May 14, NU is looking at the possibility of seeing the farewell game of Belen and Solomon.
From there, the Lady Bulldogs knew they still have Alinsug to rely on.
“Since alam [naman] natin na last UAAP [season] na nila 'to, ilalaban ko na talaga ito," Alinsug said.
