BACOLOD CITY – Seven persons were wounded in the Election Day gun attack in Silay City, Negros Occidental.
The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) released the names of the wounded hours after the incident happened at 7 a.m. in Barangay Mambulac.
Killed in the shooting were Albert Salimbot, a resident of Barangay E. Lopez, and Ronnie Piedad, 45, of Barangay Mambulac, both of Silay City.

Wounded were Ruel Espinosa, 42, of Talisay City, Negros Occidental, and Silay City residents Ric Ortillano, 46, of Barangay Mambulac; Wilfredo Cuello, 46, of PLDT Baybay; Jason Belleza of Yolanda Housing, Barangay E. Lopez; Joey Pomares, of PLDT Baybay, Barangay Mambulac; Glenn Gutierrez, 49, of Cabay Bodega, Barangay Guinhalaran; and Ginray Guitche, 32, of Barangay Mambulac.
The injured were taken to the Riverside Medical Center here while the two fatalities were brought to the infirmary of Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City.
The victims were standing on the roadside in front of the alleged political headquarters of a candidate when three suspects, including Barangay Lantad, Silay City Captain Arnie Benedicto, allegedly opened fire at them while passing through the area.
Authorities have yet to disclose other significant details, pending ongoing investigation.
PRO-NIR reiterated that the situation is under control and that all necessary resources have been mobilized to ensure the safety of the public and the stability of election-related activities in the area.
“We assure the community that justice will be served,” said Police Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, PRO-NIR director.
He said that their teams are on the ground and fully engaged.
Ibay urged residents to remain calm, cooperate with authorities, and report any information that may aid in the immediate capture of the suspects.
