“Well, we don't expect that the House of Representatives will take it seriously because most of the members of the House of Representatives are allies of the President,” she told reporters in Tres de Mayo, Digos City on Saturday, May 10.
“And an impeachment is a political exercise. It's a game of numbers. So, I don't expect anything to happen to that impeachment complaint,” she added.
On Thursday, May 8, former Duterte Youth Partylist Rep. Marie Cardema and ex-National Youth Commission chairperson Ronald Cardema posted a photo of them on Facebook holding a document with the front page that read “verified impeachment complaint” against the President.
The Cardema couple is known allies of former president Rodrigo Duterte, who is currently detained in The Hague, Netherlands under an International Criminal Court (ICC) warrant on charges against humanity of murder.
The Vice President said she hasn’t seen the Articles of Impeachment, and only knew about the complaint after it was reported that the Cardema couple has filed it.
It is unclear, however, if the impeachment complaint has already been received by the Office of the House Secretary General Reginald Velasco since session is currently adjourned because of the midterm polls. It will resume on June 2.
The photo, as shown in the Facebook page of Duterte Youth Partylist, does not have a received stamp from Velasco’s office.
