The Philippine weightlifting team banked on Rosegie Ramos and Fernando Agad Jr. after collecting four silver medals in the 2025 Asian Weightlifting Championships in Jiangshan, China over the weekend.
Agad made his presence felt in the squad after delivering the first silver medal in the men’s 55kg clean & jerk, lifting 140 kilos in his second attempt -- five kilos lighter than eventual gold medalist Wang Weidong of China. He earlier posted 113 kilos in snatch for fourth place.
He finished with a total lift of 254 kilos -- the same performance as Mansour Al Saleem of Saudi Arabia -- but had to settle for fourth place after tiebreaks were applied.
Wang won the gold with a 265-kilo total lift, while Vietnam’s Lai Gia Tanh finished silver with 260 kilos.
Ramos, meanwhile, won three silver medals in the women’s 49kgs -- first, with a 90-kilo lift in snatch, 107 kilo in clean & jerk, and 197 kilo in total.
Thailand’s Thanyathon Sukcharoen ruled their weight class with a 200-kilo total lift (91 kilos in snatch and 109 kilos in clean & jerk), while local bet Xiang Linxiang bagged the bronze with 189 kilos (86 kilos in snatch and 103 kilos in clean & jerk).
