PCO chief assures voters of orderly elections

Communication Secretary Jay Ruiz has assured the public that government agencies are closely collaborating to ensure that the May 12 midterm elections will be honest, orderly, and peaceful.

"Government agencies are working hard to ensure honest, orderly, and peaceful elections," Ruiz said on Saturday, May 10.

According to Ruiz, the Presidential Communications Office's mission, as directed by President Marcos, is to provide accurate information, education, and communications materials on government initiatives in partnership with key stakeholders.

He emphasized that credible elections are essential in building a digitally empowered democracy where transparency and trust are upheld.

Ruiz witnessed the launch on Friday, May 9, of the “Task Force KKK sa Halalan” Threat Monitoring Center at the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) Office in Diliman, Quezon City. It houses interagency analysts from different government agencies that gather reports of online disinformation and other election violations under Comelec Resolution No. 1164 for investigation and immediate action.

In addition, the PCO chief said that all government-run media platforms will collaborate to provide the public with accurate and complete election updates on May 12.

Ruiz oversaw the final preparations for the PCO's "Hatol ng Bayan 2025” election coverage as he met with the heads and staff of the People’s Television Network (PTV), Intercontinental Broadcasting Corporation (IBC), Philippine Broadcasting Service (PBS), Philippine Information Agency (PIA), and Philippine News Agency (PNA), at the PTV central office in Quezon City.

"Nandito po ang Integrated State Media para alamin ang katotohanan, dito—ito po ang sandigan ng katotohanan (Here is the Integrated State Media to uncover the truth, here—this is the foundation of truth)," he said on Saturday.

"We will be the vanguards of truth sa panahon ng eleksiyon, ’yan po ang alay natin sa sambayanan (during election. That is our tribute to the people)," he added.

The State media's election coverage will start on Monday, May 12, at 5 a.m. until 2 a.m. the next day. It will be available on traditional and digital media platforms.

The PCO Secretary also cited the state media’s collaboration with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to combat disinformation and "fake news" during the campaign period.

President Marcos has called on voters to select leaders with integrity, competence, and compassion, as the midterm election on May 12 approaches.

"Gamitin natin ang karapatang ito. Piliin natin ang kandidatong may malasakit, kakayahan, at may paninindigan (Let us use our right. Let us choose candidates who are compassionate, competent, and with integrity)," he said.

President Marcos has declared May 12 a special non-working holiday to allow registered voters to participate in the national and local elections.
