Operatives of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) busted a gunrunning group operating in Metro Manila amid the intensified security measures for the May 12 midterm elections.
NCRPO director Maj. Gen. Anthony A. Aberin said two gunsmiths and two other suspects were arrested during a buy-bust conducted by operatives of the Regional Special Operations Group (RSOG) at around 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, in Barangay Payatas, Quezon City.
Seized were two shotguns, three revolvers, two .45 pistols, and seven pieces of 12-gauge ammunition, six rounds of live 9mm ammunition, and assorted gun parts and accessories.
Aberin said the arrested suspects are now facing charges of violation of Republic Act No. 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) and Omnibus Election Code in relation to the nationwide gun ban.
Police forces in Metro Manila have started intensifying the security measures in preparation for the midterm elections.
Since May 9, Aberin has started conducting inspections on command posts and personnel on the ground to review security preparations, deployment patterns, and crowd management protocols.
In the inspections, Aberin emphasized the importance of visibility, orderliness, and coordinated response throughout the duration of the election and reminded NCRPO personnel to anchor their conduct on his Five Guiding Principles—which serve not only as professional doctrine, but as a daily discipline:
1. Observe the basics of crime prevention and solution
2. Follow Police Operational Procedures
3. Do what is right at all times
4. Avoid all forms of illegal activity
5. Let your actions be guided by your faith and closeness to God
“These inspections are not ceremonial—they are deliberate reminders that discipline does not begin in the conference room, but on the pavement,” said Aberin.
“They ensure that each member of the NCRPO is aligned with our mission of service, shaped by integrity, and deeply connected to the communities we safeguard. Our performance on the ground reveals the values stitched into our uniforms,” he added.
