President Marcos has urged Filipinos to fight for their future through the ballot and to vote for those who are capable of serving them.
In a video message on the eve of the May 12 midterm elections, Marcos called on the public to exercise their right and obligation to vote.
"Ipinaglalaban natin ang kinabukasan sa balota. Hindi sa lansangan. Hindi sa karahasan (We are fighting for our future through the ballots. Not on the streets. Not through violence)," Marcos said.
"Kaya bumoto po tayo. Piliin ang tapat, may malasakit, at may kakayahang magsilbi (So, let us vote. Choose someone who is honest, compassionate, and capable of serving)," Marcos added.
He stressed that the election is an opportunity for their aspirations to be heard.
Thus, he called on the people to uphold democracy despite differences in their beliefs.
"Isang pagkakataon ito para marinig ang boses ng bawat isa at maipahayag ang mga pangarap na mahalaga sa inyo at sa bayan (This is an opportunity for everyone's voice to be heard and to convey your aspirations that are important to you and the nation)," Marcos said.
"Iba’t iba man ang ating paniniwala, ‘yan ang diwa ng demokrasya. Pero ang pagkakaiba ng opinyon ay hindi dapat mauwi sa gulo o pananakot (We may have differing beliefs, that's the spirit of democracy. But our different opinions should not lead to chaos or threat)," Marcos said.
The President also appealed to candidates to respect the process and let peace reign during the elections.
"At sa mga kandidato, igalang natin ang proseso. Tapusin natin ang halalan nang may dangal at katahimikan (And to the candidates, let us respect the process. Let us end the election with dignity and calm)," Marcos said.
"Magtulungan po tayo upang mapanatili ang isang maayos, mapayapa, at makatarungang halalan (Let us work together to uphold an orderly, peaceful, and fair election)," Marcos added.
We are free citizens
Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero yesterday reminded voters to exercise their right to suffrage as the nation votes for the country’s next leaders.
“Ngayong ika-12 ng Mayo, gamitin po natin ang karapatang bumoto bilang patunay na tayo’y malayang mamamayan, bilang paggalang sa ating mga bayani na ipinaglaban ito (On May 12, let us exercise our right to vote as proof that we are free citizens, in honor of our heroes who fought for this),” Escudero said.
“Sa araw lang ng halalan, tunay na nagkaka-pantay ang bawat Pilipino, kung saan mayaman man o mahirap, makapangyarihan o karaniwang mamamayan, nakapag-aral o hindi, ano man ang kasarian o hitsura, ang boto ng bawat isa sa atin ay tig-isa lamang, magkatumbas lang (Only on election day are every Filipino truly equal, where whether rich or poor, powerful or ordinary citizen, educated or not, regardless of gender or appearance, each of us has only one vote, equal to all),” Escudero said.
“Gamitin natin ang ating karapatan na pumili ng nais nating iboto dahil walang sinumang tao ang pwede magsabi na mas alam nila kung sino ang mga karapat-dapat na manalo dahil lamang mayaman, makapangyarihan o mas nakapag-aral sila (Let us exercise our right to choose who we want to vote for because no one can say that they know better who deserves to win just because they are rich, powerful or more educated),” he stressed.
Exercising one’s right to vote, the Senate leader stressed, is the foundation of any working democracy.
“Ito ang pundasyon ng isang demokrasya. Ang tanging nasusunod ay ang boses ng mas nakararami kaya’t bumoto po tayo para sa kinabukasan ng ating mga anak at sa kapakanan ng ating bayan (This is the foundation of a democracy. The only thing that counts is the voice of the majority, so let us vote for the future of our children and the welfare of our people),” he stressed.
That’s why on Monday, Escudero said each Filipino should remember that the country’s future is in their hands.
“Sa darating na Lunes, isusulat natin sa balota ang isang bagong kabanata ng kasaysayan ng ating bansa at nasa ating mga kamay ang landas na tatahakin ng ating Lipunan (On Monday, we will write a new chapter in the history of our country as we complete the ballot, and the path that our Society will take is in our hands.
“Sa ating mga kandidato na humaharap sa dambana ng balota, mapayapang bigyang galang natin ang halalan at ang boses ng taumbayan (To our candidates who are facing the altar of the ballot, let us peacefully respect the election and the voice of the people),” Escudero appealed.
“Nawa’y maging mapayapa ang ating halalan at tanggapin nating lahat ang pasiya ng sambayanan anuman ito at kanino mang panig sila nakahanay (May our election be peaceful and may we all accept the decision of the people regardless of what it is and whose side they are aligned with),” he stressed.
Orderly elections
Communication Secretary Jay Ruiz has assured the public that government agencies are closely collaborating to ensure that the elections will be honest, orderly, and peaceful.
"Government agencies are working hard to ensure honest, orderly, and peaceful elections," Ruiz said on Saturday, May 10.
The Presidential Communications Office's mission, as directed by President Marcos, will provide accurate information, education, and communications materials on government initiatives in partnership with key stakeholders.
He emphasized that credible elections are essential in building a digitally empowered democracy where transparency and trust are upheld.
Ruiz witnessed the launch on Friday, May 9, of the “Task Force KKK sa Halalan” Threat Monitoring Center at the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) Office in Diliman, Quezon City. It houses interagency analysts from different government agencies that gather reports of online disinformation and other election violations under Comelec Resolution No. 1164 for investigation and immediate action.
In addition, the PCO chief said that all government-run media platforms will collaborate to provide the public with accurate and complete election updates on May 12.
Ruiz oversaw the final preparations for the PCO's "Hatol ng Bayan 2025” election coverage as he met with the heads and staff of the People’s Television Network (PTV), Intercontinental Broadcasting Corporation (IBC), Philippine Broadcasting Service (PBS), Philippine Information Agency (PIA), and Philippine News Agency (PNA), at the PTV central office in Quezon City.
"We will be the vanguards of truth sa panahon ng eleksiyon, ’yan po ang alay natin sa sambayanan (during election. That is our tribute to the people)," he added.
The PCO Secretary also cited the state media’s collaboration with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to combat disinformation and "fake news" during the campaign period.
