4 dead in gunfight between supporters of 2 politicians in Basilan

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Four people were killed and several others were wounded in a fierce firefight between supporters of two political personalities in Hadji Mohammad Ajul town in Basilan province on Sunday, May 11.

Several families fled their homes in Barangay Langil during the gun battle between supporters of Mayor Talib Pawaki and former Barangay Chairman Almujir Camilan.

The fatalities were identified as Addahang Abdulla, 45; Hajarani Maha, 63; Jul-Asbi Misuari, 44; and Jun Awang, 39.

Police are investigating how the firefight erupted.

Lawmen recovered 54 spent M16 cartridges at the crime scene.

The Philippine National Police, 14th Special Forces Company, 53rd Special Action Company, and the Philippine Coast Guard responded and securing the area.
