ILOILO CITY – Almost 36,000 teachers in Western Visayas region, including Negros Occidental province, are serving as members of the electoral board for the May 12 polls.

The Department of Education-6 assigned 35,949 teachers to serve on the electoral board and working in 7,337 classrooms as voting centers inside 2,801 public schools.
“Our teachers are all ready to serve in the electoral process,” said DepEd-6 Information Officer Hernani Escullar Jr.
Escullar said they had rigorous training by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
An additional 5,000 DepEd-6 personnel and staff were also deployed across the provinces of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental provinces as well as the highly urbanized cities of Iloilo and Bacolod.
Escullar said 2,217 DepEd were assigned under the Election Task Force while another 2,783 non-teaching staff were assigned in logistical tasks.
The DepEd activated its Election Task Force on Sunday, May 11.
Escullar said the task force is set to handle any problems or complaints against teachers as members of the electoral board.
He assured that the task force will closely coordinate with Comelec to resolve matters on the ground.
